Our Byron Councillors
Mayor Sarah Ndiaye was elected as Mayor of Byron Shire in 2024, and has served on council since 2016. A long-time feminist and activist, Sarah has fought for equality, media freedom, environmental protection, and improved public spaces, and has championed social justice during her time on council. Her priorities include addressing the housing crisis, river and wildlife restoration, and supporting youth and the creative industries.
Cr. Elia Hauge is an engineer, educator and environmentalist specialising in water, climate adaptation and sustainability. She was raised in the Byron Shire, and is focused on community resilience, housing diversity and enabling water security amid the climate emergency. Elia is the youngest ever councillor for Byron Shire, and brings fresh perspective to Council processes and decision making.
Cr. Delta Kay is a proud Arakwal Bundjalung woman raised in Byron Bay. She operates the Explore Byron Bay Aboriginal Tours and works as an Aboriginal Student Support Officer. Delta aims to facilitate open dialogue between council and Indigenous communities while protecting strong environmental and cultural values.
Cr. Michelle Lowe is a Bundjalung woman, local high school teacher, and mentor. Committed to sustainability and climate solutions, her priorities are environmental protection, affordable housing, empowering our local youth and supporting Indigenous communities.
